Hit or Bust? Prizm Blaster Break
A Prizm case break. My favorite team. Would I hit big - or bust?
Recently, I decided to try my luck with a case break - something I don't have much experience with. For those unfamiliar, a case break is a group buy-in where participants purchase a "spot" for a specific team and receive all the cards pulled for that team from the break. It’s a popular way to grab rare inserts and autographs without having to buy entire boxes yourself.
I bought a spot in a half-case break of Prizm blaster 2024-25 boxes and chose my favourite team, the Chicago Bulls—of course! Prizm is one of the most sought-after products in the trading card world, known for its shiny, eye-catching parallels and valuable rookie cards. This year, there is a lot of hype around Prizm retail due to the SSP Manga cards. Was I hoping for Matas Buzelis? Absolutely. But honestly, even a Josh Giddey base parallel would've made me happy.
So, I grabbed my spot, tuned in for the live stream, and prayed to the hobby gods.
The break started, packs were ripped, and cards were pulled... I watched as other participants snagged a few nice parallels, but nothing too big. Box by box, I kept telling myself, "I gotta get something good... right?"
The break gets to the final box... the final pack... and where did I land?
Two base Prizm cards.
I don’t mind base cards of course, but they were of players I already owned—players who aren’t exactly on my favorites list. No parallels, no inserts, no Buzelis - just two standard cards that I had already pulled last week.
Was it disappointing? Absolutely. But that’s the nature of case breaks - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Would I do it again? Maybe. But next time, I might be a little more selective about the break. Case breaks can be a gamble, and this time, I definitely landed on a bust.
